“This is usually the happiest time for the whole family but not this year,” said the 40-year-old mother of four whose jewellery shop in Jalan Banggol was robbed over a week ago.
She said more than RM200,000 worth of jewellery was taken from the shop she opened only eight months ago using most of her savings from selling fruit, a business she operated with her husband Aziz Ngah, 47.
“The case is being investigated by the police and I have told them who I suspect,” said Kasiah who lived in Kuala Bekah near here.
Kasiah said to add to her problems she was being evicted from her business premises and the property owner, the State Heritage Trust Fund Board (SHTFB), had given her and 33 other tenants up until Hari Raya to move out.
“Initially, we were told to vacate the premises this week but our pleas to the state government has resulted in SHTFB granting us a grace period of about a month.”
“I am having sleepless nights wondering what to do, knowing that by the end of the fasting month, I will have to vacate, and that is the time when I should be celebrating Hari Raya with my family.”
She said when she signed a tenancy agreement with SHTFB eight months ago, she was under the impression that she would be able to do business for quite a while.
“I know it is a month-to-month agreement but they never told me that I would have to vacate the premises after only eight months.
“Otherwise I would not have spent RM100,000 buying out the previous tenant’s business and spending more than RM20,000 on renovations.”
Kasiah said finding a new place before Hari Raya would be next to impossible unless the state government intervened by giving her more time or by providing an alternative business location.
