It hit me like thunder when i heard a dearest friend told me that Terengganu State Government is, soon, going to demolish some of the most prominent and iconic landmarks in the state, the China Town heritage row & Kedai Payang, and few other buildings in the area around it, for the development of ‘double frontage’ Pulau Warisan.
Fyi, some of the buildings that have already been destroyed is gazetted as heritage building by the United Nation. Is State Government aware of that? Based on Terengganu State Religious Affairs Department Commissioner’s reaction on what happened to Masjid Raja in Chendering, I pretty much doubt so (please refer – http://hicsuntdracones.wordpress.com/2009/09/01/terengganu-from-where-nature-embraces-heritage-to-the-government-embarrasses-nature-and-heritage/)
Honestly, this is a extremely sad news and i believe, many of us are affected by it. Be it physically or emotionally (Obviously, I’m with the latter) Not that i want to dwell in the past, it’s the undivided love i have for our historical heritage that ignites this protest. And i know i’m not alone.
Please don’t let the developers erase our history and by right, as a Government elected by the people, you should not support such acts.
As responsible Terengganu people (even the outsiders as we’re now 1MALAYSIA!) let’s join our hands together and save our heritage buildings from being destroyed by the mindless wreckers.
Please show your support by leaving comments together with your name. This list will be forwarded to relevant authorities and to our DYMM Agong.
